Notification on the Prohibition of Imported Pigs, Wild Boars and their Products from Bulgaria

In April 2000, there was an outbreak of swine fever in Bulgaria. In order to prevent the disease from spreading in China and to protect the safety of animal husbandry in China, the following Notification is made in accordance with Article V of theQuarantine Law of the People’s Republic of China on Entry and Exit Animals and Plants:

I. It is prohibited to import pigs, wild boars and their products directly or indirectly from Bulgaria from the date of this Notification; all pigs, wild boars and their products from Bulgaria which have arrived at the port shall be returned or destroyed.

II. It is prohibited to transit pigs, wild boars and their products from Bulgaria throughmailing or carrying by passengers. Once discovered, they shall be returned or destroyed.

III. Pigs, wild boars and their products from Bulgariafoundon international navigation vessels, aircrafts and trains that pass through or stay in China shall be sealed up; animals and plants wastes and swill found on the above-mentioned means of transport shall accept quarantine treatment under the supervision of the entry-exit inspection and quarantine authorities.

IV. All pig, wild boar andtheir products that have been smuggled into the country and interceptedfrom Bulgaria shall be destroyed and disposed of immediately under the supervision of the entry-exit inspection and quarantine authorities.

V. Any violation of the above provisions shall be processed by the entry-exit inspection and quarantine authorities in accordance with the relevant regulations of theQuarantine Law of the People’s Republic of China on Entry-Exit Animals and Plants.
