On August 18, car carriers loaded with export vehicles were seen queuing at the checkpoint of Ningbo Meishan Comprehensive Bonded Zone, heading toward the yard of Meixi RO-RO Terminal, from which these automobiles will be shipped overseas via ro-ro transport. Meanwhile, at Berth 5 of Meidong Container Terminal, the sound of ship horns filled the air as containers carrying China-made vehicles departed the port aboard giant vessels, slowly setting sail for international markets.

According to statistics from Ningbo Customs, the export value of automobiles through the Port of Ningbo reached 22.0 billion yuan from January to July this year, a year-on-year increase of 62.4 percent.

“We have introduced innovative measures such as ‘one-stop’ supervision to streamline Customs procedures and enhance clearance efficiency, allowing enterprises to export vehicles through various channels with greater ease,” said Cao Wenqing of the Logistics Monitoring First Section of Meishan Customs, a subsidiary of Ningbo Customs.

Chen Xue, Deputy General Manager of Ningbo Sovel Supply Chain Management Co., Ltd., noted, “Thanks to the ‘direct loading upon arrival’ and ‘contactless clearance’ modes created by Customs, we have achieved zero delays in automobile exports. This has strengthened our confidence in expanding into global markets. Since the start of the year, we have handled over 50,000 vehicle exports.”

In recent years, supported by favorable policies and technological innovation, Chinese-made new energy vehicles (NEVs) have gained growing popularity abroad. To monitor quality and safety risks in NEV exports, Ningbo Customs has established a Level-1 monitoring point dedicated to export NEV quality and safety. “The monitoring point is responsible for a range of functions related to Level-1 quality and safety risk monitoring of exported NEVs, including collecting, translating, organizing, querying, statistically analyzing, and conducting preliminary assessment of relevant data. Between January and July, we have compiled and submitted multiple risk alerts and specialized analytical reports on safety risks based on monitoring data, supporting the high-quality growth of the NEV export sector,” said Ye Chenlu, deputy head of the Third Inspection Section at Meishan Customs.

From efficient container loading and intelligent checkpoint clearance that takes just seconds to collaborative Customs-enterprise services and innovations in multimodal transport, Ningbo Customs is leveraging a dual approach of “smart supervision + precision services” to promote green logistics channels for emerging markets under the Belt and Road Initiative. These efforts are helping accelerate the global expansion of Chinese automobiles and contributing to Ningbo’s development as a hub city under the “dual circulation” strategy.
