In the early hours of December 31, 2025, a Boeing 767 freighter, fully laden, soared into the night sky from Haikou Meilan International Airport, charting a course for Rzeszów, Poland. This inaugural flight marks the launch of a key air freight corridor between the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP) and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEECs), further expanding Hainan’s direct freight network to Europe. The route provides a stable and efficient air corridor dedicated to the movement of high-value-added, time-sensitive goods between the two regions.

For the successful launch of this service, Haikou Meilan International Airport leveraged its coordinating role by convening a dedicated pre-flight coordination meeting well in advance. The airport worked closely with cargo handling agents, charter operators, and all involved departments to formulate detailed plans covering flight schedules, the positioning of inbound unit load devices (ULDs) for the aircraft, nighttime cargo handling operations, and apron safety. This meticulous coordination ensured a seamless operational flow, which in turn facilitated the rapid clearance of goods.

Building on this new connection, Haikou Meilan International Airport had handled a cumulative international cargo and mail throughput of 28,100 tonnes in 2025 as of December 30, marking a 6 percent year-on-year increase. This performance underscores the ongoing development of its international freight network-a framework centered on Haikou and extending to Europe, West Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
