EU Remains Ningbo Port's Largest Trading Partner in First Two Months of 2026

Chinanews — Ningbo, China, March 16 (Xiangqing) — Ningbo Customs announced on March 16 that from January to February 2026, Ningbo Port in Zhejiang Province recorded a total import and export value of 494.45 billion yuan (RMB), representing a year-on-year increase of 12.9%. The European Union emerged as the port's largest trading partner during this period.

Despite a complex and volatile global economic environment, Ningbo Port's foreign trade has withstood multiple pressures and achieved a strong start to the year. Exports performed particularly well, reaching 388.97 billion yuan, up 16% year-on-year, while imports totaled 105.48 billion yuan, growing by 2.5%.

In terms of trading partners, the EU, the United States, and ASEAN ranked as the top three for Ningbo Port during the first two months. Trade with the EU and ASEAN reached 94.95 billion yuan and 55.88 billion yuan respectively, surging 19.3% and 22.2%, together accounting for over 30% of the port's total foreign trade volume. Meanwhile, trade with Belt and Road partner countries reached 263.14 billion yuan, up 17%.

By product category, mechanical and electrical products, as well as labor-intensive goods, dominated exports. Mechanical and electrical product exports hit 211.16 billion yuan, up 17.9%, while labor-intensive product exports reached 113.45 billion yuan, growing 16.7%. Notably, the "new three" of exports—new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaic products—showed remarkable performance, with new energy vehicle exports skyrocketing by 144.5%.

As a powerhouse in China's foreign trade, Ningbo Port's influence over surrounding regions has further strengthened. In the first two months, enterprises from other parts of Zhejiang Province conducted trade worth 196.01 billion yuan through Ningbo Port, up 16%, contributing 48.1% to the port's overall trade growth.
