Kunming, January 28 (China News Service, Luo Shanshan, Li Zhu) – Yunnan Province exported 19,000 tons of coffee worth 860 million yuan (RMB) in 2025, ranking first in China in both volume and value, Kunming Customs reported on January 28. Shipments reached 43 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Vietnam, Germany, Malaysia, and France, with new markets developed in Central Asia and Central and Eastern Europe compared to 2024.

This international success is driven by Yunnan’s distinctive “star” coffee products. The region’s terroir produces diverse high-quality beans, with Baoshan small-grain coffee standing out for its unique flavor profile described as “rich but not bitter, aromatic but not intense, with a slight fruity acidity”.

At Yunnan Xiyin Coffee Co., Ltd. in Baoshan City, a batch of small-grain coffee is ready for overseas shipment. These beans, processed using a special washing technique, command about three times the price of standard Grade I beans. “Since 2024, we have been exporting ‘customized’ deeply processed beans tailored to user needs,” said Wang Yihan, the company’s director. “This marks Baoshan’s first step into the international high-end market with value-added coffee products.”

Supporting this expansion, Tengchong Customs, under Kunming Customs, established a “Yunnan Products Go Global” task force. The team implements targeted support policies for specific industries and enterprises to facilitate the international growth of Yunnan coffee.

In 2025, Tengchong Customs oversaw coffee exports valued at 34.701 million yuan from its jurisdiction, a 17% year-on-year increase, including 11.1 tons of products like freeze-dried coffee powder and instant coffee. Both the deep processing rate and added value of Yunnan’s exported coffee products continue to rise.
