According to customs statistics, the total value of trade in agricultural products between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEECs) reached 8.7 billion yuan from January to August 2025, dropping 3.9 percent compared to the same period last year (the same below).
Key features of trade in agricultural products between China and CEECs during the January-August period in 2025 are shown as below:
(I). China's exports were dominated by nicotine-based products for e-cigarette cartridges, edible aquatic products, dried and fresh fruits and nuts.
From January to August 2025, China's exports of agricultural products to CEECs increased by 13.3 percent to 7 billion yuan, making up 1.2 percent of its total exports to the region in the same period. Among these, exports of nicotine-based products for e-cigarette cartridges decreased 1.3 percent to 1.41 billion yuan; edible aquatic products accounted for 810 million yuan, up 35.8 percent; while dried and fresh fruits and nuts reached 460 million yuan, soaring 125.3 percent.
(II) Major imports included dairy, hops, and feathers & down.
From January to August 2025, China's imports of agricultural products from CEECs decreased by 40.9 percent to 1.7 billion yuan, making up 1.3 percent of its total imports from the region in the same period. Notably, imports of dairy products rose by 31.5 percent to 510 million yuan; hops amounted to CNY 170 million, up 64.6%; meanwhile, feathers and down for stuffing fell by 60.8 percent to 120 million yuan.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Romania emerged as China's top three trade partners of agricultural products.
From January to August 2025, China's export & import values of agricultural products with Poland reached 3.3 billion yuan, a 3 percent increase; export & import values of agricultural products with the Czech Republic amounted to 1.04 billion yuan, up 15 percent; and export & import values of agricultural products with Romania fell 17 percent to 890 million yuan. Together, these three countries accounted for 37.9 percent, 12 percent, and 10.2 percent, respectively, of the nation's total import-export value of agricultural products with CEECs.
