Customs statistics show that the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1012.34 billion in 2024, with an increase of 7.5% over 2023 (the same below). Among them, the value of exports to CEE was RMB 790.6 billion, an increase of 8.3%, and that of imports from CEE was RMB 221.74 billion, an increase of 4.8%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE in 2024 are as follows:
(I) The primary exports consist of M&E products and labor-intensive products.
In 2024, China exported RMB 542.09 billion of mechanical & electrical products to CEE, with an increase of 7.9%, accounting for 68.6% of the gross export value (the same below) from China to CEE over the same period. Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 62.61 billion, a decrease of 6.3%; the value of automatic data processing equipment and its parts and components reached RMB 53.99 billion, an increase of 7.6%. In the same period, the value of exported labor-intensive products was RMB 131.72 billion, an increase of 8.9%, accounting for 16.7%. Among them, the value of textiles and garments was RMB 61.74 billion, an increase of 6.2%, and that of plastic products was RMB 20.47 billion, an increase of 15.1%. In addition, the value of exported agricultural products reached RMB 10.19 billion, an increase of 5%, accounting for 1.3%; the value of exported foods reached RMB 5.33 billion, an increase of 21.8%.
(II) The primary imports consist of M&E products, metallic mineral ores, and copper materials.
In 2024, China imported RMB 155.77 billion of mechanical & electrical products from CEE, with an increase of 4.1%, accounting for 70.2% of the gross import value (the same below) from CEE to China over the same period. Among them, the value of auto parts was RMB 38.24 billion, with an increase of 39%, and that of automobiles was RMB 31.76 billion, with a decrease of 23.6%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ore and ore sand reached RMB 16.8 billion, with an increase of 32%, accounting for 7.6%; the value of unwrought copper and copper material reached RMB 9.53 billion, with an increase of 12%, accounting for 4.3%. In addition, the import of agricultural products amounted to RMB 4.23 billion, a decrease of 37.6%, accounting for 1.9%; Imported food totaled RMB 2.25 billion, a decrease of 48.9%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary rank as China’s top three food trade partners.
In 2024, China's imports from and exports to Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary were RMB 319.87 billion, RMB 165.31 billion and RMB 115.32 billion respectively, up 8.3%, 9.2% and 12.9% respectively, accounting for 31.6%, 16.3% and 11.4% of China's gross import-export value from and to CEE in the same period.
