An Overview of Food Trade between China and Central and Eastern European Countries in January 2025

Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 690 million in January 2025, an increase of 9.9% over the same period last year (the same below).

 

The main features of food trade between China and CEE in January 2025 are as follows:

 

(I) Edible aquatic products, nuts and vegetables were the main exported products.

 

In January 2025, China exported 530 million yuan of food to Central and Eastern Europe, an increase of 22.1%, accounting for 0.7% of the total value of China's exports to CEE that month. Among them, edible aquatic products amounted to 130 million yuan, an increase of 30.3%; shelled walnuts amounted to 62.625 million yuan, an increase of 11.8 times; vegetables and edible fungi amounted to 52.195 million yuan, an increase of 18.5%.

 

(II) Dairy products, hops, alcohol and beverages were the main imported products.

 

In January 2025, China imported RMB 160 million of food from CEE, a decrease of 18%, accounting for 1.1% of the total value of imports from CEE in that month. Among them, dairy products were 59.765 million yuan, an increase of 73.9%; hops were 40.291 million yuan, an increase of 31%; alcohol and beverages were 12.144 million yuan, a decrease of 25.4%.

 

(III) Poland, Greece and the Czech Republic were the top three trading partners.

 

In January 2025, China's import and export of food to Poland, Greece and the Czech Republic reached RMB 260 million, RMB 100 million and RMB 77.74 million respectively, with an increase of 20.2%, 39.5% and 70.8% respectively, accounting for 37%, 15.2% and 11.2% of China's total import and export value of food from CEE in the same month.
