Xin Xiang Li 55, the world's largest ultra-low-temperature refrigerated vessel, departed on its maiden voyage from Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province on Dec 11, marking an advancement in high-end distant-water fishery transport.
The vessel measures 143.49 meters in length and has a deadweight of approximately 9,000 metric tons. Its core feature is a refrigerated hold of roughly 11,500 cubic meters, capable of reaching temperatures as low as -55℃ and precisely preserving high-value seafood such as sashimi-grade tuna and premium deep-sea squid, addressing long-standing transport constraints caused by limited ultra-low-temperature shipping capacity.
To support the vessel's departure, Zhoushan Entry-Exit Border Inspection Station coordinated in advance with shipping companies and agents, establishing a dedicated service team and tailored clearance plan. On the day of departure, officers conducted inspections, document verification, identity checks, and baggage examinations, reducing processing time while meeting regulatory requirements.
In recent years, Zhoushan has promoted upgrades in distant-water transport capacity by encouraging investment in modern fleets. Since 2024, the city has added 22 distant-water transport vessels, increasing annual transport capacity by more than 200,000 tons. Border inspection services also continue to improve clearance efficiency, provide operational support for ships, and contribute to the development of the local marine economy.
