Original Title: Gansu's Jan-Oct TCM Exports Up 4.5 Percent in Value
Amid a growing global embrace of "Chinese-style wellness", high-quality traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) from Gansu are gaining remarkable traction in international pharmaceutical and health markets. According to statistics released by Lanzhou Customs, the province exported 26 different categories of TCM materials from January to October, with the total export value reaching 74.136 million yuan, a 4.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The European market exemplifies this trend. Amid rising global health awareness and growing international recognition of TCM, consumers in European countries are showing keener interest in high-quality Chinese medicinal herbs. Cumulative exports of these herbs from Gansu to European markets have now exceeded one million yuan. Prized medicinal herbs from Pingliang, such as astragalus, angelica, and white peony root, have found a strong following in the EU and other markets, valued for their documented health benefits.A 2.1-ton consignment of traditional Chinese herbs, including astragalus and codonopsis, received the green light for export to Poland on November 10 following inspection by Pingliang Customs, a subsidiary of Lanzhou Customs.
To ensure the successful export of this shipment, Pingliang Customs established a special task force and provided the “Customized Enterprise-Specific Solutions” under a dedicated assistance program. Leveraging service initiatives such as“Customs Chief Visits Enterprises for Policy Briefings” and the "Ping Jie Tong" program (a fast-track channel for Gansu's key agricultural products export), the authority guided companies in building integrated quality control and traceability systems spanning the entire supply chain, from cultivation and processing to export. To this end, Customs officials walked enterprises through the intricacies of EU technical regulations for herbal imports and supported them in building quality management systems that meet international standards.
In recent years, Pingliang Customs has made supporting traditional Chinese medicine exports a priorityin its efforts to upgrade the quality and efficiency of foreign trade. By steadily advancing reforms to streamline administration and delegate power, improve regulation and upgrade services , while upholding rigorous product safety standards, the agency has strengthened both its supervisory and service functions, thereby opening up broader global markets for Gansu's medicinal herbs.
