News Report. Container trucks shuttle actively as massive red bridge cranes lift containers onto ocean-going vessels in the Chuanshan Port area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. Reports show that the container throughput at Ningbo Zhoushan Port exceeded 20 million TEUs at 18:00 on June 23, achieving this milestone 15 days earlier than the previous year.
Amid the significant transformation of global trade dynamics, the success of Ningbo Zhoushan Port's "mid-year milestone" is bolstered by robust support from the customs. Ningbo Customs advances smart customs development and implements the action of "Smart Customs Power", optimizing and refining transit supervision models across waterways, railways, and highways to facilitate seamless land-sea logistics operations.
Ningbo Port has now achieved integration and networking of various data streams, encompassing terminal operations such as container entry, ship loading/unloading, customs release, and inspection-related procedures. From declaring import and export goods to their release, including appointments for retrieving imported goods and loading them for export, all procedures are now conducted online, marking a transition from "making one physical trip at most" to "no trips necessary." Ningbo Customs actively participates in the branding of "Zhejiang e-Port Connect," advancing intelligent supervision, process optimization, and multimodal transport network development. This effort has enabled the Ningbo Zhoushan Port's 27 sea-rail intermodal lines to extend services to 16 provinces (autonomous regions or municipalities) and 67 prefecture-level cities nationwide, establishing it as a "seaport right at the doorstep" for inland businesses.
Utilizing the "Zhejiang e-Port" model, the Yiwu International Land Port has achieved "completely automatic, round-the-clock, contact-free" customs clearance for export transit goods. This innovation has fostered a new framework where "two ports operate as one" and inland ports function equivalently to seaports, rendering them "port of departure" and "port of destination" hubs for global commerce. In March 2025, the "Yiwu–Ningbo Zhoushan Port" sea-rail intermodal line surpassed one million TEUs in total volume, becoming the first such line in the country to reach this milestone.
Meanwhile, Ningbo Customs enhanced the management of waterborne transport logistics and implemented the "departure confirmation" mode. Businesses no longer need to wait for terminal inventory handling or river vessel booking. They can simultaneously submit applications for river-sea intermodal customs transit and customs approval for clearance. The domestic transportation details of the transit declaration form can be completed while the vessel exits the primary entry port. Upon receiving the "clear to depart" notification, goods can leave the port, reducing transit wait times by one to two days. Addressing market demand for shipping services, Ningbo Customs teamed up with shipping companies and ports to facilitate the "Sea-Rail Express and China-Europe Express (CEX)" swift logistics model. This ensures seamless connections for logistics pathways like "Yiwu-Ningbo Zhoushan Port-Dubai" and "Anhui-Ningbo-Europe". Currently, Ningbo Zhoushan Port manages a total of 308 container routes, with the port receiving 210 ultra-large container vessels of 20,000 TEU capacity to date this year.
