The Budapest-Belgrade Railway connects Budapest with Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. It is a flagship project under the Belt and Road Initiative jointly built by China and Central and Eastern European countries, and also the first project where Chinese railway technology and equipment have been aligned with EU railway interoperability technical specifications.

The Hungarian section of the railway spans approximately 158.6 kilometers, featuring electrified dual-use tracks for both passenger and freight services with a maximum designed speed of 160 km/h. The project is jointly constructed by subsidiaries of China Railway Group Limited (CREC) and local Hungarian enterprises. Construction began in July 2020, and civil engineering works commenced in February 2022. Upon full completion of the entire Budapest-Belgrade Railway, travel time between the capitals of Hungary and Serbia will be reduced from 8 hours to approximately 3.5 hours, significantly facilitating personnel exchanges and logistics between the two countries, boosting economic development along the route, and promoting connectivity throughout Central and Eastern Europe.
