An Overview of Bilateral Trade between China and Central and Eastern European Countries from January to April 2025

Customs statistics show that the total value of bilateral trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 329.68 billion from January to April 2025, an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of exports to CEE was RMB 269.91 billion, an increase of 10.7%, and that of imports from CEE was RMB 59.77 billion, a decrease of 12.8%.

The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE from January to April 2025 are as follows:

(I) M&E products and labor-intensive products were the main exported products.

China exported RMB 187.89 billion of M&E products to CEE from January to April 2025, with an increase of 10.8%, accounting for 69.6% of the gross value of China's exports to CEE in the same period (the same below). Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 23.51 billion, an increase of 36.2%; the value of automatic data processing machines and units and its parts and components reached RMB 15.93 billion, a decrease of 8.5%. Over the same period, the export of labor-intensive products amounted to RMB 39.89 billion, an increase of 0.5%, accounting for 14.8%. Among them, the value of textiles and garments was RMB 17.82 billion, an increase of 5.9%, and that of plastic products was RMB 6.79 billion, an increase of 0.6%. In addition, the value of exported agricultural products reached RMB 3.43 billion, an increase of 14%, accounting for 1.3%; the value of exported foods reached RMB 1.93 billion, an increase of 21.5%.

(II) The primary imports consist of M&E products, metallic mineral ores, and copper materials.

China imported RMB 41.15 billion of M&E products from CEE from January to April 2025, a decrease of 14.3%, accounting for 68.8% of the gross import value from CEE in the same period (the same below). Among them, the value of auto parts reached RMB 9.21 billion, an increase of 17.2%; that of automobiles reached RMB 7.85 billion, a decrease of 15.3%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ores and ore sands was RMB 5 billion, an increase of 0.2%, accounting for 8.4%, and that of unwrought copper and copper materials was RMB 2.74 billion, a decrease of 5.1%, accounting for 4.6%. In addition, the value of imported agricultural products was RMB 890 million, a decrease of 37.5%, accounting for 1.5% of the total value of imports, and that of imported food was RMB 620 million, a decrease of 22%.

(III) Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary rank as China’s top three food trade partners.

China's import and export value with Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary reached RMB 105.32 billion, RMB 49.71 billion and RMB 41.57 billion respectively from January to April 2025, with an increase of 6.4%, a decrease of 2.4% and 19.9% respectively, accounting for 31.9%, 15.1% and 12.6% of China's total import and export value with CEE in the same month.
