Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 1.79 billion in Q1 2025, a year-on-year increase (the same below) of 3.8%. Among them, the value of food exported to CEE accounted for RMB 1.34 billion, an increase of 16.8%; the value of food imported from CEE reached RMB 450 million, a decrease of 22.4%.
The main features of food trade between China and CEE in Q1 2025 are as follows:
(I) The primary exports consist of edible aquatic products, dried and fresh fruits and nuts, vegetables, and edible fungi.
In Q1 2025, China's exports of food to CEE reached RMB 1.34 billion, an increase of 16.8%, accounting for 0.7% of China's total exports to CEE during the same period. Among them, the value of edible aquatic products reached RMB 250 million, an increase of 24.4%; dried and fresh fruits and nuts reached RMB 180 million, an increase of 237.8%; vegetables and edible fungi reached RMB 140 million, an increase of 8.1%.
(II) Dairy products, hops, alcohol and beverages were the main imported products.
In Q1 2025, China's imports of food from CEE reached RMB 450 million, a decrease of 22.4%, accounting for 1% of China's total imports from CEE during the same period. Among them, dairy products reached RMB 190 million, an increase of 38.9%; hops reached RMB 91.896 million, an increase of 97.4%; alcohol and beverages reached RMB 37.991 million, a decrease of 3.2%.
(III) Poland, Greece and the Czech Republic were the top three trading partners.
In Q1 2025, China's import and export value of food to Poland, Greece and Czech Republic reached RMB 670 million, RMB 270 million and RMB 200 million respectively, with an increase of 14%, 32.2% and 58.2% respectively, accounting for 37.8%, 15.4% and 11.4% of China's total import and export value of food from CEE in the same period.
