Customs statistics show that the total value of food trade between China and Central and Eastern European countries (hereinafter referred to as CEE) was RMB 92.42 billion in January 2025, an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period last year (the same below). Among them, the value of exports to CEE reached RMB 77.91 billion, an increase of 13.8%; the value of imports from CEE reached RMB 14.51 billion, a decrease of 9.8%.
The main features of bilateral trade between China and CEE in January 2025 are as follows:
(I) M&E products and labor-intensive products were the main exported products.
In January 2025, China exported RMB 52.27 billion of M&E products to CEE, an increase of 13.2%, accounting for 67.1% of the gross value of China's exports to CEE in the same month (the same below). Among them, the value of electrical equipment & material reached RMB 6.31 billion, an increase of 41.3%; that of household appliances reached RMB 3.99 billion, an increase of 38.5%. During the same period, exports of labor-intensive products amounted to 14.67 billion yuan, an increase of 12.1%, accounting for 18.8%. Among them, the value of textile and clothing reached RMB 6.57 billion, an increase of 21.5%; the value of plastic products reached RMB 2.2 billion, an increase of 9.8%. In addition, the export of agricultural products reached RMB 900 million, an increase of 10.3%, accounting for 1.2%; the export of food reached RMB 530 million, an increase of 22.1%.
(II) M&E products and metal ores were the main imported products.
In January 2025, China imported RMB 10.49 billion of M&E products from CEE, a decrease of 6.1%, accounting for 72.3% of the gross import value from CEE in the same month (the same below). Among them, the value of auto parts reached RMB 2.79 billion, an increase of 31.8%; that of automobiles reached RMB 2.04 billion, a decrease of 26.5%. In the same period, the value of imported metal ores and ore sands reached RMB 1.21 billion, a decrease of 8.6%, accounting for 8.4%; the value of imported unwrought copper and copper materials reached RMB 470 million, a decrease of 54.1%, accounting for 3.2%. In addition, the import of agricultural products reached RMB 260 million, a decrease of 32.7%, accounting for 1.8%; the import of food reached RMB 160 million, a decrease of 18%, accounting for 1.1%.
(III) Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece were the top three trading partners.
In January 2025, China's imports and exports to Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece were RMB 31.21 billion, RMB 13.14 billion and RMB 9.29 billion respectively, with an increase of 18.2%, a decrease of 1.3% and an increase of 0.5% respectively, accounting for 33.8%, 14.2% and 10.1% of China's total imports and exports to Central and Eastern Europe in the same month.
