Xiamen Daily - Fujian Province’s import and export value with CEECs reached 24.78 billion yuan in the first seven months of this year, up 4.5 percent year-on-year, according to the latest statistics from Xiamen Customs. Exports accounted for the bulk of the total, exceeding 20 billion yuan to hit 22.1 billion yuan, an increase of 8.2 percent compared to the same period last year.

CEECs form a key part of the global emerging market and serve as major partners in the Belt and Road Initiative. With multiple cities in Fujian launching China-Europe Railway Express services, economic and trade ties between the province and CEECs have grown increasingly close.Since 2007, when trade between Fujian and CEECs surpassed 10 billion yuan for the first time, bilateral trade has expanded steadily, climbing from 11.03 billion yuan in 2007 to 41.8 billion yuan in 2024, with an average annual growth rate of 8.2 percent, Xiamen Customs reported.

Private enterprises have played a vital role in driving trade between Fujian and the CEECs. Their import-export volume with CEECs totaled 14.5 billion yuan, a rise of 13.5 percent year-on-year, accounting for nearly 60 percent of the province’s total trade with these nations.

According to officers of Xiamen Customs, Poland, Greece, Hungary, and the Czech Republic are Fujian’s principal trading partners within the CEECs, accounting for 75 percent of the province’s total import-export value with the region.Notably, Poland remained the largest partner, with bilateral trade amounting to 10 billion yuan, an increase of 5.6 percent, representing 40.4 percent of the total. Hungary posted the fastest growth, with trade surging 94.3 percent year-on-year to 2.82 billion yuan, taking up 11.4 percent of the province’s trade with the CEECs.

Machinery and electronic productsremained the top export category from Fujian to CEECs, with export value reaching 12.84 billion yuan, up 10.1 percent year-on-year, and accounting for nearly 60 percent of the province’s total exports to the region. Key export items included electrical equipment dominated by lithium-ion batteries, automated data processing equipment and its parts and components such as LCD monitors, and flat-panel display modules, which reached 2.67 billion yuan, 2.08 billion yuan, and 1.57 billion yuan, respectively. Together, these products made up 28.6 percent of Fujian’s total exports to CEECs. In addition, electric vehicles, among China’s “New Three” export commodities, emerged as a fast-growing category, with exports surging by 130 percent year-on-year to 480 million yuan.

Machinery and electronic products continued to dominate Fujian’s imports from CEECs, totaling 1.15 billion yuan and accounting for over 40 percent of the province’s imports from the region in the same period. Among these, electrical equipment (primarily electrical control equipment) and aircraft parts saw notable import growth, rising by 36.1 percent and 32.1 percent year-on-year, respectively. Imports of metallic mineral ores amounted to 360 million yuan, an increase of 9 percent, with copper ore from Bulgaria making up the bulk at 180 million yuan during the same timeframe. In addition, specialty agricultural products such as dairy products and beer from Poland, as well as wine from Serbia, have continued to enter the domestic market throughout China via ports in Fujian.
